Saturday, 9:15pm. And there's nothing going on

What a way to kick off Rocktober. Yeah, MF'ers, it's Rocktober. You know, when that classic rock station just cant seem to be anymore annoying, they announce that it's Rocktober. I am that classic rock station. Other than the Old 97's / Violent Femmes show at Uptown Mix this Wednesday and the road trip to see the last of the liver damage tour, aka Guided By Voices there's really not much I'm preparing to have rock in Rocktober. Oh sure, something will rock. Why is it though that Rocktober has to occur when the days are getting really short and the weather colder? That to me seems the antithesis of Rocktober. Rocktober should be in like May. That way you get the whole School's Out for Summer tie in. Now that would rock.

At least 2005 is supposed to bring a new Kasey Chambers and Eels album.

Why is it I'm the only one that likes Beck's "Sea Change" album? For his un-Odelay and un-Midnight Vultures stuff it's quite fulfilling and fairly experimental in its own right. Sure, you can actually understand what Beck is talking about too, it's straightforward writing. Maybe that's why I like it. As much as I like his crazy cultural references and obtuse metaphors, Sea Change proves he can write without being trendy / Miller-esque (as in, you know, Dennis). The fact that the whole album is mellow and has one big vibe that carries from song to song is also nice (not unlike the themes of Odelay and Midnight). And for one of his albums that's not Odelay or Vultures it does not sound like it's produced on a four track. It's well done production wise, both in the sonics and instrumentation.

I actually got up at a reasonable time, though that was offset by a nap later this evening. After spending the better part of the morning / early afternoon doing more or less nothing I decided I should probably mow the lawn, which has not been mowed since pre-Labor Day if I had to guess.

I spent a fair bit of time pre and post mowing (with shower, of course) looking for Yellow Dog Linux ISO's for their new 4 release. Even one of their release candidates would be great, dammit. Unfortunately I'm not sure what the deal is, I tried to see if they closed it up ala Red Hat or SuSE but could not find any info to that effect. Urgh. Yeah, I'm cheap.

I also spent a fair bit of time (wasting) coming across Live Journal's of people I either know or have met at some point along the way. LJ's are entertaining in their own right and a few of these were really fun. It's always fun to see other perspectives on Nashville, especially events that I've attended. It's more a time sink than anything, and I was definately in the mood to kill some time. After last weekend I needed some time to kill.
