Thanks to The WVSR for the quote. It's painfully true but it's imporant that Heir Ashcroft does not get another 4 years of finding more ways to skirt the Bill of Rights.
I am pleased to report that I have hooked up my Javanco dock sale Bang and Olufsen turntable with much success. I gave some John Denver, Bill Cosby (an album that he sings on called Silver Throat) and the Sir Douglas Quintet a spin. The SDQ is a band Doug Sahm of Doug Sahm and Texas Tornado fame was in early on. Pretty cool stuff (thanks Dad), kinda like Stones doing country with a little psychadelic and some blues thrown in.
Those three albums down and only something like 50 to go. I picked up a few at Grimey's moving sale this past weekend. It's a veritable polka fiesta round these parts.
I've slowly been getting rid of crap. I've been finding things to pitch here and there. Nothing that makes it look like a dent but it's better than it was. I really need to just sit down and figure out how to better sort some of this stuff so it's at least findable. Which brings me to my next subject...
I'm tearing up the offices of 1 RIMBoy.com Way looking for one of my Apple IIe disks. It's kinda important since it has a program that I need to figure out how to do some of the joystick programming on the Apple IIe. I found some plans online to get around the resistance issue (or lack of) that I have with my Javanco dock sale slide potentiometer haul (literally boxes of them). As such a bit of research has renewed my idea for finding uses for the ]['s. Some of the inspiration is linked on the right.
I've started work on the one painting project I have for some less fortunate IIe's (as in, they're dead Jim). I took picts of the one that just happened to be UT Orange. Trust me, there's other colors. Though I am thinking of doing up one Vols style. We'll see. I need to get this project done before I move on to some others. Of course Brandon did not help matters by giving me additional food for thought (grin). Which reminds me, I need to run by a real hardware store (or Eddie Warner here in Nashville).
I picked up an amp in Goodwill this past weekend. An old Rat Shack model with digital tuner. Does not save the memories (probably needs a new battery) but has a few more inputs, just what I need for the office.
... my thoughts on the "democracy" we're seeding around the world. Thank goodness W's 2000 campaign was in part based on the fact he was not a nation builder. I would not be surprised to wake up tomorrow and find out we've invaded England or Japan. You know, just for the hell of it.
According to news reports there are a few people not too happy about Thursday's speaker at work. I'm planning to stay far away because I figure I'd be out of a job at the end of the day. Actually, now that I think about it I might have a couple of good reasons not to be anywhere near that side of campus. Any other year I'd have the trip to Dayton as my excuse. Unfortunately it does not look like I'm going. Probably better that way but still not fun.
The B-52's are also playing on campus this week. At least the booking people got out of the 70's for this year's event. Unfortunately I've never seen the B's but I cannot bring myself to see them for the first time as part of a captive audience (it's part of a graduation event). It's like a country artist after playing arena's and going back to the county fair circuit. It may be good but it's like the Murph and the Magic Tones scene in the Blues Brothers. The soul has been sucked out and all that's left is the shadow of a once great self. I'd like my Rock Lobster with it's original energy. Dry County just won't have the same feel, nevermind Cosmic Thing. I'd like to think they'll swing back thru and rock Nashville later. Maybe next year they'll bring Iggy Pop. That'd rule.
You may have noticed that I've added a section to post the various links I come across (on your right). There's too much interesting crap on the internet. Hopefully you'll find it interesting too. I've still got some work to do, PHP is stupid sometimes. That said I finally got around to adding the links stuff which is a feat in and of itself.
One of these days I'm going to get around to writing about why the early 80's was one of the last creative periods in music and why it's the last time we had soo much choice and creativity on the radio. I've had this idea for awhile, I just need to sit down and write. Dammit.
It appears that the dive bar that attracts the right crowd, "The Boardroom", will be closing it's doors in the next couple of weeks. The owner is heading to school and thus the place will be closing. Mark this down as another event Dave will be missing while in Spain (Jen's (aka Angie) departure to LA being another). Shame, it was one of the few places where I knew I could go and find a few friends hanging out. No hipsters, scenesters, beautiful people, or other annoying bar types were ever there any time I went. Just regular people hanging out and listening to the BEST jukebox in Nashville. The only jukebox in town with The Old 97's in it.
There are days where I fell like I'm living the words of the Kim Richey song by the name of the quote above. Or, with the alternate lyrics we came up with, "then I went and stepped in poo, ain't that, just my luck".
I finally decided to change things around abit here at 1 RIMBoy.com way. I decided I was tired of the Deskjet 680C sitting on a shelf taking up valuable book space. I decided I wanted to have the color option back on my desk so I set about moving wires, zip tying stuff together and ultimately making the connection.
As I quickly found out I apparently bought cartridges that automatically expel their contents. The formerly full black cartridge was empty and the color one is MIA too. I went and found some old 49A color cartridges I salvaged from Dayton a few years back only to find they too were not gonna play. Found a black one I used to test some B&W only deskjet's only to find it too was not playing. Part of me wants to write the printer off, the other part of me will end up buying new cartridges. I do have the color Epson Ken gave me a couple months ago and did manage to make it work. Unfortunately the form factor is such that it does not play well in my fung shui (um, yeah). Besides, I've never said anything nice about Epson printers, why should I start now.
I do seem to recall that I'll get a free ream of paper if I buy a new cartridge and one of the Mega-Office places (benefits of being CEO of RIMBoy.com) so I may play that angle. Then again, it's not like it's that great a printer.
WVSR is a venerable quote factory. If only I could write one quote a year on the level of that. Then again you're talking to the guy who thought up the Pillsbury Dough Jesus. The holy bread company(ies?) have to have a spokesman, right?
It's May already. Went to NC for Moria's wedding and despite the rain they had a great wedding. It was good to see friends again and good to finally be off my back pain medicine. I thankfully did nothing to re-injure the back so it's safe to assume I'm back to normal (har har). We got to see an overturned truck on I-40 right before the NC border in TN (if you've driving I-40 from TN to NC you know what I'm talking about). I popped on the Pixies Surfer Rosa album and then had 20 miles of some of the most intense interstate driving one can have.
I took the time to get my 10 meter rig setup in Jen's car. I figured with a bit of daylight driving I might get to make a contact or two. Or one the entire weekend as was the case. I worked a Cali station Friday evening (heard another Cali station and a station in Honduras). Nice QSO (ham speak for conversation) until the 10m band closed up. After that it was nothing but static.
Drove around the campus of UNC. Really really nice. Lots of tall trees. Definately a college town. Unlike Murfreesboro. At some point I did put on the Sonic Youth though I did not drive around Chapel Hill with it blaring. Note, today's band name is inspired by an album I packed for the trip. Should not be too hard to figure out. Probably a cover band.
Well, with it being May that means certain people will be leaving and certain people will be returning (I'm not trying to jinx anything). Dayton is coming up though it's not looking like it's going to happen. Unless I fall into some money (yeah right) I'll be sitting around that weekend wondering what deals I missed out on.
