Nobody puts Baby in a corner.

To quote Weezer, say it ain't so. Yipee though, ANOTHER Law and Order spinoff. It's only a matter of time before they create the L&O channel, all L&O all the time. 24/7/365.

This week has gone on too long. TGIF. I don't know if I could have handled another day.

    Friday Night Lights....

Illinois style. This article is sad on so many levels. This is the same Cairo Mark Twain wrote about in Huck Finn. Highest poverty in the state by county. How this would compare to East St. Louis or Chicago's South Side would be interesting, both of those areas in a county by county comparison are scewed by their more affluent in county neighbors. That the county is at that rate though is not surprising. I took backroads from Belleville to get to Paducah a couple years ago. While skipping Cairo I did go thru Metropolis. The only thing going for Metropolis is the fact that they have riverboat gambling and Paducah (with all of the attractions Paducah has to offer) is a short drive away. Otherwise Metropolis looked much like Cairo is described in that article. To think Cairo once had the population 3x the amount of Mascoutah (the town I grew up in) and currently has 2-3000 less people than Mascoutah currently has. While there are smaller towns in Illinois Mascoutah is about as small as you want to get IMO. I always joked you had to know your family blood lines before you could date anyone. Like Friday Night lights, there's not much to do in the town except sports (both Cairo and Mascoutah). While that's the case in many other towns, other towns (such as Mascoutah) don't seem to be on the brink like Cairo. Such is the life of Southern Illinois. It's sad to see but a major reason why I moved out of the area.

I think I've beaten back this cold. Hopefully this is my sinus infection for the year and I'm done. It's getting to be convertible weather ya know. I dropped some serious cash this past weekend on one of those classic pairs of Raybans like they wear in the Blues Brothers. I've been wanting a pair and had trouble finding them. Thus, when I found them this past weekend I decided I better buy so I don't miss my chance. It's nice to wear a real pair of sunglasses. I also picked up a new pair of running shoes for the running season. I've probably worn my current pair a little too long. Unfortunately I could not use the gift certificate my dad gave me since the area's only Sports Authority closed after sustaining storm damage a year or two ago.
